Our Story
In 2007, on the steps of the El Dorado County Courthouse, an action took place reminiscent of the olden days which allowed a family to purchase a hotel ideally located in the heart of South Lake Tahoe. This family had a vision of establishing the first green hotel in an area of particular interest that held a special place in their hearts.
The renovation and transformation of the hotel would need a plan. With the help of California eco-consultants and a local architect firm, the plan was developed for creating an environmentally conscious hotel from renovation to current operation; it would become the new generation of hospitality. The guiding principle throughout the process was to minimize use of landfills while preserving the rustic and organic environment Lake Tahoe is known for throughout the world.
Since day one of the renovation every effort was made to reduce, re-use and recycle as much of the existing materials as possible. Any materials and furnishings that could not be reused were either donated or recycled for other purposes and the new materials used in the renovation were specifically chosen for their sustainability. Most of the wood on the exterior has been reclaimed from old barns and bridges that were dismantled for new projects. All interior spaces utilize zero VOC paint, sustainable Berber carpet and wallpaper made from recycled materials. Other wall materials were made of organic clay plaster that electromagnetically reduces indoor air pollution. The matted pictures in all the rooms were taken by a local artist highlighting the beauty that surrounds Lake Tahoe.
In recognition of our efforts, we have become one of the most respected hotels in Lake Tahoe by the locals as well as the governmental agencies and held as the example of the future. We have received numerous awards and strive every day with extreme passion to implement the best possible solutions to help save the earth for generations to come.
To further enhance our vision to keep “Tahoe Green”, we have implemented and continue to use:

- Tank-less water heating system
- “Ozone” washing system for all laundry
- Dual flush toilets (where applicable)
- Radiant heating system throughout the hotel and rooms
- Organic “My Earth” toiletries
- 42” plasma HD televisions with Energy Star Saver auto shut off
- Tahoe Refuse Recycling Program – Regardless of whatever you throw away it is recycled. No need to worry about separating your waste in specific trash receptacles
In an effort to continually progress forward, we are striving to make constant improvements that further our sustainability practices.
